Code like a Champion with Scientists from ORNL

Hour of Code - December 7-13, 2026

Team UT-Battelle and Oak Ridge National Laboratory are joining national laboratories across the country in supporting Hour of AI, formerly known as Hour of Code.

During Computer Science Education Week, ORNL scientists and technical professionals will visit classrooms throughout the region. Volunteers will briefly introduce students to their work at ORNL, share how they use artificial intelligence and computer science, and assist teachers as students complete a hands-on Hour of AI activity.

Hour of AI gives students an accessible, one-hour introduction to artificial intelligence and computer science. No prior experience is required, and activities are available for students across grade levels and learning environments.

This year, ORNL is offering in-person classroom visits at participating schools.

Since 2017, ORNL volunteers have proudly helped students explore coding and computer science through Hour of Code—now Hour of AI.

School Sign ups will be open until November 6th.
